The College of Medicine at the University of Zakho has taken an important step forward with the official opening of its Medical Simulation Laboratory.

The inauguration ceremony took place on Thursday, October 30, 2025, under the supervision of Dr. Diyar Abdulkarim Saeed, President of the University, and in the presence of Dr. Nofel Rashid Hussein, Dean of the College of Medicine.

The laboratory, named “Medical Simulation”, was established as a core facility for practical medical training. It consists of 15 specialized training stations, providing students with a realistic and interactive environment to enhance their clinical and practical skills.

The main goal of this lab is to ensure continuous, high-quality practical training, serving as an effective alternative in situations where real clinical cases or hospital training opportunities are limited. In addition, the lab incorporates advanced Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies, designed to facilitate learning through modern educational tools and smart assessment methods.

While the laboratory primarily benefits medical students, it also contributes significantly to advanced professional training for other groups, including:

  • Local healthcare staff
  • Internal security forces
  • Emergency response and border protection teams

This wide-ranging use highlights the strategic importance of the laboratory as a regional investment in health education and preparedness, strengthening public health capacity and improving the overall readiness of the medical sector in the region.
